Pretty Things That Will Kill You

Hope Diamond.  Alleged to be cursed, over 12 of its owners over the years have died of unnatural causes or ill-fate.

Lightning.  Lightning is certainly pretty.  Fatalities are rare… averaging between 30 and 50 a year in the US, but most encounters are fatal.

Motorcycles.  Motorcycle accidents have about 6 times the fatality rate of car accidents. Motorcycles also have a higher fatality rate per distance traveled.

Niagara Falls.  Most powerful waterfalls in North America.  Horseshoe falls (pictured) features a 173 foot drop, are 2600 feet wide, and during peak season 202,000 cubic feet of water pass over the falls every second.  (Hat tip to K.B.)

Mercury.  Captivating in its liquid luster. Inhaling or ingesting mercury can cause neurological and sensory disorders, and in some doses death.

Puffer Fish. 2nd Most Poisonous Vertebrate in the world.  1,000x more poisonous than potassium cyanide.

Space.  A beautiful, twinkling, frozen vacuum.

Chevy Corvair.  Unsafe at any speed.

Kate Moss.  She killed Pete Doherty’s career.  Who knows when she’ll strike next?

Teahupo’o.  Massive waves and a shallow reef means every wipeout could kill you.
